I've been banging on a guitar for the better part of my life
6 string lover's sure been a comfort and a beautiful second wife
and just like a woman she gives me pleasure brings me joy and soul delight
with one major difference between the two women-the second one and me don't fight
and out of all the old guitars
through the years that have come and gone
there's this one that I still remember
'till the day I die I know I will regret
The day I sold that Red Guitar

It was a beautiful cherry red Gretsch hollow body and 'F' holed
it had a whammy bar and bore the scars of a wanna-be rock n' roll star
I had it back about '78 what ever happened to it I don't know
but what I'd give if I could have it now
just to play her out or even just hold

and out of all the old guitars
through the years that have come and gone
there's this one that I still remember

It might have been old and a little beat up
could have used a little touch up paint
but I always said "I like 'em better like that...
with the chips and the nicks and scrapes"
oh yea...
